Oscar Sunday

Today is one of my favourite days of the year. The Academy Awards are on! I am the biggest Oscar geek I know. For some unexplainable reason I am enthralled with acceptance speeches, the competition in the categories and immersing myself in the night completely. Each year I try to watch as many films nominated in the major categories as I possibly can — it makes watching the show so much more exciting. Having an idea of who you want to win, versus who should win, versus who does win, etc. etc., just gets me goin’ (in the best way!). I swear I’ll be a little old lady and instead of cats being “my thing”, it’ll be the Oscars.

Keeping with tradition, Tim and I went through each category and made educated guesses as to who we think will win. Our guesses are kind of a mix between who we think will win and who we want to win (they can be two very different things). I think my appreciation for these awards goes out to my days of dancing — where you pour your heart and soul into a piece of art and to have any kind of recognition for it is incredible, and actually winning something for it is just on another level. I’ve never acted before but I think because of dance I have garnered an understanding and appreciation for the art and awards that go with it.

So, here are mine and Tim’s picks for this year’s awards! Please note that some of our guesses for certain categories were based off which name was best (that means you, Butter Lamp). Who are you cheering for?! Please comment below — I’d love to hear your thoughts and get some Oscar conversation going! For a full list of nominees, click here.
